University of Mobile (School of Nursing) The School of Nursing, an integral part of the University of Mobile, is dedicated to the advancement of higher education based upon Christian values. The nursing programs of the University of Mobile seek to prepare nurses with Christian ideals to meet the nursing needs of humanity.

The University of Mobile Undergraduate and Graduate Catalog, and the University of Mobile Student Handbook are the primary resources of information for students. The School of Nursing Student Manual is designed to be a supplemental aid to the nursing major and is not intended to preempt the University of Mobile Undergraduate and Graduate Catalog. However, School of Nursing policies found in this Manual will supersede policies found in the School of Nursing section of the University of Mobile Undergraduate and Graduate Catalog.

MISSION

As an integral part of the University of Mobile, the School of Nursing faculty is dedicated to the advancement of nursing based upon Christian values. It is anticipated that the graduate will find maximum understanding of the reality of God and the Christian way of life while pursuing self-fulfillment and rendering service to others.

The nursing faculty strives to meet the mission and goals of the University by offering a course of study that includes theories and concepts from the humanities and fine arts, natural sciences, social sciences, and nursing. Each student is encouraged to develop critical thinking skills based upon a scientific and theoretical base to support nursing decisions. The primary emphasis of the faculty is the individual – the individual student and the specific needs and interests of that person and the individual patient and efforts to meet the needs of that person or the involved family.

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NURSING

The purpose of the baccalaureate nursing program is to prepare a beginning professional practitioner of nursing who is capable of utilizing the nursing process based upon appropriate theories. The beginning professional practitioner of nursing functions as an initiator of primary care in meeting th needs of individuals, families, and groups. The graduate will be able to assume the role of a leader of others in delegating nursing care, giving nursing care and using research finding in nursing. The graduate should possess the willingness and the ability to continue professional growth by pursuing graduate education or life-long nursing study.
