University of  South Alabama (College of Nursing) The College of Nursing at the University of South Alabama has an excellent record of making a difference by preparing professional nurses who are outstanding clinicians, leaders, and managers. Our graduates possess the knowledge and skills to be successful in their careers as professional nurses.

The College of Nursing offers the Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) degree and the Master of Science in nursing degree (MSN). If you are seeking the traditional college experience, you can complete the 4-year BSN degree program at our Mobile campus or on the USA Baldwin County campus in Fairhope, Alabama. We also offer an accelerated track for highly qualified and motivated students.

Students in the accelerated track complete the undergraduate nursing component of the curriculum in just 12 months. Accelerated MSN students continue on and in three additional semesters graduate as nurse educators or nurse administrators. USA students have rich clinical opportunities in all specialty areas and in a variety of health care settings. Accelerated Clinical Nurse Leader track information available now.

The Clinical Nurse Leader RN to MSN Track is especially designed to meet the needs of registered nurses desiring both a MSN and the opportunity to stay unit-based. The coursework is online, allowing a flexible schedule to facilitate working RNs to return to school.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) educational track is offered completely online. Students take didactic courses in the comfort of their own home and arrange clinicals in their own community (in most cases). CNSs are licensed registered nurses who have graduate preparation (master's or Doctorate) as a CNS.

The College of Nursing also has a RN to BSN track for associate degree or diploma prepared RNs. Our RN to BSN track is totally online and designed to meet the needs of working RNs. Clinical courses are completed in the RN's home community with skilled preceptors.

The College of Nursing’s MSN program is offered entirely online with students completing clinical courses in their home communities. The MSN program has 13 different specialty tracks. You chose the track that best fits your career goals. We offer nurse practitioner tracks for several high demand clinical areas (Emergency, Adult Acute Care, Gerontological/Adult Psychiatric(GeroPsych), Neonatal, Women's Health, Psychiatric/Mental Health, Family, and Child Health.

The MSN program can also prepare you for a career in Nursing Education. As part of this track you will choose a clinical nurse specialist preparation in adult health, maternal child health, or psychiatric/mental health. We have innovative tracks in each of these areas Public Health Nursing Administration , Nursing Administration Clinical Nurse Leader or Clinical Nurse Specialist.

The MSN program can also meet your needs if you are looking for a RN to MSN program. We have a special track for RNs with a bachelor's degree in a field other than nursing. We also have a special track for nationally certified nurse practitioners that want the MSN degree and we assist post-master's students retool.

Complete your degree in your home community by taking courses online and completing clinical requirements with skilled preceptors! Our graduates have excellent scores on certification examinations and are receiving outstanding evaluations from their employers.

The mission of the College of Nursing is to provide quality innovative education programs to a diverse student body, to participate in research and scholarly activities, and to provide service to the University, the profession, and the public. The College accomplishes this by providing a caring, engaging environment for the empowerment of student learning potential, the professional development of faculty, and the promotion of the nursing profession.

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NURSING PROGRAM (BSN)

The BSN program prepares graduates for professional nursing practice. Upon completion of the program graduates are eligible to apply for the National Council Licensure Examination to become licensed as a Registered Nurse.

The BSN program is offered in a traditional four year format with nursing courses concentrated in the junior and senior years. The BSN program is also offered in an accelerated format and there is a special track for Associate Degree and diploma prepared nurses.
