Monterey Peninsula College - Maurine Church Coburn School of Nursing
The Maurine Church Coburn School of Nursing offers the associate of science degree leading to RN licensure, as well as both professional and community health education courses. The program is offered in partnership with Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula.
The Maurine Church Coburn School of Nursing is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) and accredited by the National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).
MISSION
CNSA at Monterey Peninsula College is committed to supporting nursing education, establishing unity among our future colleagues and providing nursing and pre-nursing students opportunities to become knowledgeable about specialties and opportunities in the field of nursing. We cultivate the development of leadership skills among our members through interactive group process work. Our mission is to provide our members opportunities to broaden their individual vision of the nursing profession.
PRIMARY OBJECTIVES
* Our chapter has regular bi monthly meetings to provide opportunities for dialogue and direction to meet our goals as a team.
* Our innovative Break Through to Nursing program has been established to recruit more individuals into the nursing profession as well as into the student organization (CNSA). We promote nursing as a career in local educational institutions from elementary grades through college level transfer students.
* Our Community Service projects allow exciting opportunities for our nursing students to actively participate in a variety of client centered activities that benefit our community.
* We are actively involved in the legislative process. Each year we send designated officers as representatives of our school to the CNSA State and NSNA National Conventions as advocates of significant issues in today's health care.
* Guest speakers offer educational sessions that expose students to expanded cutting-edge roles in nursing.
* Experience and participation in local, state, and national activities build membership and/or participation in chapter activities qualifies for college credit.

PROGRAM OF STUDY
The program of study at the Maurine Church Coburn School of Nursing includes both general education and nursing to provide the scope of knowledge required to assure the delivery of quality nursing care. The curriculum allows students an opportunity to apply nursing skills in a variety of health care settings. Students who successfully complete the program are eligible for the National Council Licensure Exam for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Graduates are awarded the Associate of Science degree with a nursing major.
