California State University, San Bernardino (Department of Nursing)
Nursing is an evolving health care profession with numerous career opportunities. The Nursing Department offers a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Nursing. Baccalaureate prepared nurses work collaboratively, independently and in leadership capacities in a variety of health care settings, including hospitals, schools and community agencies to assist individuals, families and communities in achieving health-related goals. Always a challenging, yet rewarding degree program, graduates with a BS degree in nursing are eligible to sit for the Registered Nurse (RN) licensure examination (NCLEX), and they are also eligible to apply for a Public Health Nursing Certificate. The B.S.N. degree grants graduates a level of independent practice, Public Health options and leadership roles beyond that of the degree offered at community colleges. CSUSB’s graduates are also ready for admission to most graduate nursing programs upon completing the B.S. degree. Students must apply to the Nursing Department to be accepted for the BSN program.
We presently offer the B.S. degree for basic (pre-licensure) students, advanced placement options for LVN students and a RN-BSN completion program for RN’s looking to move into the more advanced roles described previously.
We also offer a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program, clinical nurse specialist (CNS), with special emphasis on population-focused practice for students wishing to move into advanced clinical practice. Students must apply to Graduate Studies to be accepted for the MSN program.
