Florida A&M University is proud of its glorious past and long tradition of excellence in nursing education. Close student-faculty relationships prepare graduates who possess clinical reasoning skills, are technologically proficient, grounded in principles of social justice, and able to practice professionally in a variety of medical/health care delivery systems. The faculty, grounded in their understanding of the realities of delivering services, is focused on the many contemporary community-based health promotion and disease prevention nursing and health care challenges that face rural and urban population across the lifespan.
Our location in the state's capital provides us multiple opportunities to involve faculty and students in governmental issues that affect nursing health policy issues.
The School offers a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Nursing. Both programs are approved by the Florida Board of Nursing and accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). The School also offers a Doctor Of Philosophy (PhD) In Nursing Science cooperatively with the University of Florida and Florida State University.
THE BACCALAUREATE PROGRAM
The four-year program leads to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. The curriculum is designed in two phases: (1) pre-professional requirements may be completed at a junior college or another university.
The program provides the foundation of a liberal arts education as well as the nursing theory and science necessary for the full scope of professional nursing responsibilites and the knowledge base necessary for advanced education in specialized clinical practice.
The knowledge base in nursing theory and science is applied through extensive clinical experinces in medical/health care delivery systems that range in size and services from large area hospitals, to community clinics, to homes. Your nursing courses are structured so that you are concurrently enroll in a nursing theory course focused on understanding the science of health and disease conditions and a clinical course that permits your integration application of the science in the clinical setting.
Baccalaureate education in nursing provides the basic foundation for entry into program practice. When you graduate with a Baccalaureate of Science degree, you are prepared as a generalist capable of functioning in any number of beginning leadership roles in a variety of medical/health delivery systems.
