Valdosta State University (College of Nursing)

Valdosta State University (College of Nursing) Valdosta State University College of Nursing welcomes you to our website, the gateway to professional nursing education in South Georgia. In so many ways the profession of nursing touches peoples lives and profoundly impacts the wellbeing our communities, our nation and beyond.

The faculty of the VSU College of Nursing are dedicated to improving the health care of our region through the preparation of a professional nursing workforce characterized by enthusiasm, skill, knowledge, and honor. Through the establishment of a teaching/learning environment based in empathy, aesthetics, science and technology, faculty and staff work to sustain a culture of caring, competency and creativity. Our graduates assume leadership in nursing and health care from clinical decision making at the patient’s bedside, to the corporate board rooms of major health care organizations. Our students have the opportunity to explore careers in a wide variety of acute care and community settings, working with role models from all specialties within nursing.

One of the goal's of Valdosta State University's College of Nursing is to promote community engagement to help build South Georgia's future. Activities directed toward accomplishing this goal involve mutually beneficial collaboration with our partners in health care. Through these projects, faculty members and students engage in teaching to enable learning beyond the campus walls while providing direct benefit and service to the community.

Our METI Simulation Labs provide state-of-the art learning opportunities for students. Preprogrammed scenarios allow students to practice providing realistic care without risk or harm to the patient. Scenarios also allow all student the opportunity to care for patients with high-acuity, low-frequency conditions, that they might not have the opportunity to care for in the acute care settings. Scenarios enhance critical thinking skills and clinical judgment and during scenarios faculty act as facilitators to guide the learning experience and ensure that students achieve learning objectives.
