HEALTH CARE The Health care program is designed to offer a distinctive opportunity for students to influence the health, lifestyle and productivity of individuals and organizations. It prepares students to plan, implement and evaluate health promotion programs and encourages them to become committed to the vision of improving the health and well-being of society. Nursing and two individualized programs in Health Promotion are the areas of focus. The nursing major develops meaning in nursing situations in a variety of healthcare environments. Student-faculty relationships create curriculum outcomes that develop a nursing professional who values learning and embodies a caring ethic. NURSING BSN MAJOR Grand View the baccalaureate program leading to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree is a blend of liberal arts and professional nursing education, which together result in the learning neccesary for those interested in becoming professional nurses. NURSING SITUATIONS Nursing students have multiple clinical courses where the essence of nursing and caring evolve through nursing situations. Independent Nursing Situations allow students to focus on and develop additional skills in a specific clinical area they choose. Nursing situations involve persons of all ages, persons who are acutely or chronically ill, and persons who need health promotion. Students have the option of taking nursing electives which are related to specialty areas. NURSING BSN CAREER OPTIONS Grand View College Nursing graduates are employed in many different clinical areas, such as: community health, critical care, pediatric, obstetrical, medical-surgical, and surgical nursing. They also have a variety of positions including staff nurse, clinical nurse specialist, adult nurse practitioner, nurse midwife, nurse manager, and nurse anesthetist. Upon graduation, nurses are eligible to take the state board licensure examination in which GVC students have had a high passing rate. Grand View B.S.N. graduates have a high placement rate and are employed by local and national agencies in a variety of practice settings. Job placement and career counseling resources are available. Graduates are prepared to pursue graduate education. Many graduates of Grand View College have gone on to receive master’s and doctoral degrees, choosing to practice as nurse educators, nurse practitioners, and clinical nurse specialists.
