The School of Nursing is historically among the best nursing programs in North Carolina. Our graduates consistently score at the very top of the registered nurse licensing exam, and it is easy to see why. Our program offers one of the highest ratios of clinical-to-classroom hours in the state. Our nursing students receive firsthand clinical experiences at nearby Wilson Medical Center, as well as at major medical facilities including Wake Medical Center, Duke University, UNC-Chapel Hill, and Nash Health Systems. In settings ranging from community hospitals to major medical centers, our faculty are side by side with our students, teaching, coaching, and supporting their learning experience. It’s learning by doing, what a strong clinical nursing program should be. Preparation to be a nurse involves more than theory, laboratory work, and courses, the essential element is one-to-one interaction with patients in health care settings. The professional nursing courses in this baccalaureate degree program are designed to prepare graduates to function in present and emerging nursing roles as members of multidisciplinary health care teams. The liberal arts, biological, physical, and social science courses taken prior to the nursing courses provide a sound basis for humanistic, scientific nursing. Baccalaureate nursing education fosters the development of independent thinking, initiative, decision making, resourcefulness, and the ability to respond to changing needs and environments The School of Nursing offers a baccalaureate nursing program which leads to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree. The program is fully approved by the North Carolina Board of Nursing in Raleigh, N.C., and is fully accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. Graduates of this program are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses. The School of Nursing accepts traditional students, transfer students, second-degree students, and Registered Nurses who are returning to school to earn the baccalaureate degree.
