University of Tulsa (School of Nursing) ABOUT THE COLLEGE OF BUSINESS

The College of Business Administration focuses on flexible programs which meet the needs of its students, while providing graduates that meet the needs of the business and health care communities.

To meet the needs of its students and corporate partners, the future employers of TU graduates and the College of Business Administration formed an Executive Advisory Board made up of corporate leaders who serve as a nationwide resource for faculty and students. These top executives provide the college's leadership with personal insight and advice on how successful national and international companies operate, and what kind of business graduates make the grade in their organizations. With their assistance and guidance, the College continues to develop flexible programs that can be modified as new technology and market developments force companies to rethink how they do business.

To provide its students with an environment that encourages personal success, the College strives to maintain low student-to-faculty ratios in its classes and of course, classes taught by full time college faculty. None of its undergraduate or graduate courses are taught by graduate assistants. In addition, the College has put a greater emphasis on faculty advising, so guidance begins right at the freshman level and continues as the student progresses.

While a student may specialize in one particular area of business, the College has designed a curriculum that exposes students to a wide range of business knowledge and experience. This curriculum includes courses in international business and business technology. Since business graduates who have an understanding of the intricacies of international business are better prepared for the realities and opportunities they will face in the workplace, the College offers all business majors a variety of unique opportunities to travel and observe business practices throughout the world. Examples of these opportunities are the Spring Break Course Trips and the Summer Study Abroad program. Technology is another major component of business today. Therefore, each student is provided with numerous opportunities for hands-on experiences with the latest business software and technology. Students have three computer laboratories available for their use as well as multi-media classrooms for use in student team meetings, presentations, and projects. Additionally, through other unique classroom experiences, valuable internships and community service business projects, our students receive a 'well rounded' education which prepares them to meet the challenges of a changing world.

Nursing students find that the School of Nursing provides an academically nurturing environment that employs the latest in teaching methods and computer technology.

The School of Nursing's position within the College of Business provides a distinct advantage for its students since health care is a business, and nursing is responsible for the management of patient care. Each nursing student is required to earn nine credits in business related courses and is provided with opportunities for international study as well. As part of their intensive classroom work, students are taught the communications skills and cultural diversity knowledge that have become so vital to nursing in a changing world. The personal learning experience is also enhanced by an on-campus skills laboratory which affords students the opportunity to practice what they have learned in the classroom in a setting that simulates the health care problems they will face in the real world. The School has established ties with three major metropolitan medical centers, and an array of community health care agencies and psychiatric centers. Employers in a variety of health care settings throughout the country applaud our nursing graduates for their knowledge and skills.

NURSING

The School of Nursing’s undergraduate curriculum leads to the bachelor of science degree in nursing and prepares graduates for the Registered Nurse licensure examination. The curriculum provides a broad general education and a superb professional program based on the Roy systems model. Our goal is an educated individual who is a professional nurse.

The School of Nursing has accreditation by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, 61 Broadway-33rd Floor, New York, NY 10006 (1-212-363-5555 Ext 153) and program approval by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing. It is a member of the Council on Baccalaureate and Higher Degree Programs of the National League for Nursing and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.

The Nursing program begins clinical experiences during the Spring of the Sophomore year, giving students five semesters to develop their clinical skills, while most programs have four semesters. Tulsa has a wide range of hospitals and community agencies that are used by the nursing program. Graduates are prepared for employment in hospital and community health agencies. Job opportunities abound for TU nursing graduates. There is a high demand for nurses that is expected to continue for the next twenty years.
