University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee (College of Nursing )

University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee (College of Nursing ) The traditional program is offered at three campuses: UWM; UW-Parkside, in Kenosha; and UW-Washington County, in West Bend. Students complete all clinical experience through the campus of their choice. The curriculum at all three campuses is the same. Students graduate from UWM.

The programs at the Parkside and Washington County campuses are referred to as Consortial Nursing Programs. For more information: Nursing at UW-Parkside.

Freshmen who intend to major in nursing are admitted as pre-nursing students. Pre-nursing students take an average of two years of liberal arts courses - in humanities, social sciences and natural sciences - before applying to the clinical major in the College of Nursing. Some nursing courses also are taken during this time.

The college's four-semester major prepares students as generalists in nursing - the diagnosis and treatment of human responses to actual or potential health problems. Studies center on the promotion, maintenance, and restoration of health.

Specifically, students take courses in anatomy, physiology, chemistry and other lab science courses. They study community health nursing, pharmacology, how to manage acute health problems, health promotion and more. In addition, they learn technical and administrative skills, and receive many hours of supervised clinical instruction.
