Elmhurst College (Deicke Center for Nursing Education - Nursing Department)

More than ever, the health care profession depends on highly educated nurses to provide expert nursing care and management. At Elmhurst's Deicke Center for Nursing Education, you'll develop not only a full range of cutting-edge skills, but also the imagination, flexibility, and compassion you'll need on the front lines of patient care. Here's some of what you'll find here:
* A personal learning environment. Classes at Elmhurst are small by design, with a student-faculty ratio in nursing of 9:1. Our faculty will work closely with you to design a customized educational program—and they'll get to know you as an individual. * The only baccalaureate program in nursing in DuPage County. A bachelor's degree opens a wide variety of career doors, but that's not all it does. The liberal education at the heart of our bachelor's program also helps you build an understanding of the context in which you will work. In classes such as sociology, theology, and art, you'll embrace new ideas, refine your values, and build important critical thinking skills.
* A dynamic faculty. Each member of Elmhurst's nursing faculty has an advanced degree in nursing. Our faculty know what it takes to succeed in nursing—because they've done it themselves.
* A world of experience. At Elmhurst, you'll have abundant opportunities for clinical work in pediatrics, emergency rooms, oncology clinics, public schools, and more. As a junior and senior, you'll spend two days each week working alongside your future colleagues at hospitals and other health-care facilities.
* Preparation for a remarkable career. Elmhurst graduates have an outstanding success rate with the national licensure examination. Some of our recent alumni are earning advanced degrees at leading institutions; others immediately began their careers with excellent hospital and medical centers. Virtually all of our graduates find jobs before commencement.

The Deicke Center for Nursing Education's baccalaureate program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education through 2010 and approved by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation.

GOALS OF THE NURSING PROGRAM

* Prepare graduates for professional nursing roles appropriate for present and future health care delivery systems.
* Develop a foundation for graduate study in nursing.
* Assist students to acquire knowledge, skills, and values for service to a diverse, multicultural society.

The nursing program builds on a strong tradition in the liberal arts, affording students multiple opportunities to implement concepts and principles from foundation and support courses.
