MISSION

To provide associate degree and diploma nurses with a high quality, accessible, enriched Baccalaureate Registered Nurse Completion Program (BRNCP) that provides the knowledge, skills, and performance competencies to improve nursing practice in a diverse global and technological community. To encourage students to think critically, be receptive to change and anticipate future health care needs of society as well as prepare graduates for advanced education in nursing and to seek continuous professional development. One way this mission is accomplished is through partnerships in the health care community.

TRANSITIONS IN NURSING
This course facilitates transition to the role of the baccalaureate nurse. This course begins the process of increasing the breadth and depth of prior nursing knowledge with an emphasis on nursing theories, evidence-based practice, regulatory aspects of the profession, professional behavior and individual accountability. This course integrates communication, critical thinking, and cultural awareness.

NURSING RESEARCH
This course introduces students to the research process and research utilization in evidencebased practice. Emphasis is placed on identifying researchable problems through literature review and analysis as well as study.

ETHICAL DECISION MAKING IN PROFESSIONAL NURSING PRACTICE
This course prepares the student of professional nursing for ethical decision making in clinical practice. The foundation for the course consists of an introduction to bioethical theories and principles as well as ethical decision making models applied to professional nursing. Students will apply critical thinking concepts to applicable codes of ethics, ethical theories, principles, and rules in discussing the ethical dilemmas encountered in professional practice. Ethical decision making models are applied to clinical dilemmas encountered by patients at the beginning, middle, and end of life. Personal, professional, cultural and spiritual values are examined in the context of ethical dilemmas and their resolution in health care.

HEALTH ASSESSMENT

CLINICAL PATHOPHYSIOLOGY IN NURSING
This course is designed to familiarize the nursing student with the science of pathophysiology. Diseases are discussed with an emphasis on clinical applicability. Critical thinking skills will be utilized in determining the rationale for alterations in body functions.

ADVANCES IN CLINICAL PRACTICE
This course is designed to update students about evolving clinical issues and practice trends. Topics include patient safety and error reduction, pathophysiology, technology, pharmacology, and current clinical practices. The student is expected to access electronic information resources.

COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSING
This course provides the tools for critical analysis of the principles of health promotion and disease prevention of families and communities. Cultural diversity, ethics, legal and political responsibility of the nurse in leadership roles of advocate, change agent, collaborator, resource person and teacher are emphasized. The student applies knowledge of public health science, and nursing theories to make assessments of the client/community. The student applies theories and models from the fields of education, nursing and public health to community nursing, including vulnerable populations and violence and family health risks in 90 hours of clinical practice within a community setting.

LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT FOR PROFESSIONAL NURSING PRACTICE
This course is designed to assist the student in developing as a professional nurse by investigating leadership and management theories and principles. The course emphasizes management, leadership, organizational theories, policy, regulatory requirements, evidence-based practice and business economics. Major emphasis is placed on accountability and communication.

NURSING SENIOR EXPERIENCE
This capstone course provides senior nursing students with the opportunity to synthesize program concepts and theories. The clinical component is designed to explore clinical experiences new to the student. Students collaborate with faculty and clinical preceptor to develop personal learning objectives that relate to program outcomes.

FUNDAMENTALS OF NURSING CARE
This course is an introduction to nursing that includes orientation to the nursing process, nursing diagnoses, and critical thinking in developing a plan of care. A faculty -facilitated simulation lab is the environment used to teach the steps for safe delivery of basic care skills. Critical thinking and communication processes will be integral to the learning of basic skills.
