The College of Nursing is one of the six colleges that, along with the Ohio State University Medical Center, comprise the university's health sciences complex. The College of Nursing enjoys state-of-the-science classrooms and a newly updated Technology Learning Complex, the clinical skills laboratory that is equipped with several simulators and a computerized clinical information system. Our research and computer laboratory facilities are outstanding. We are part of a world-class academic health sciences center while also being located on the campus of one of the nation's largest and most comprehensive land grant universities.

The College of Nursing offers excellent preparation for leadership in the nursing profession at both undergraduate and graduate levels. The undergraduate program provides a strong academic and clinical background for entry into professional nursing, as well as leadership preparation at the baccalaureate level for those who are already registered nurses. The master's program is designed to prepare nurses for advanced practice roles as nurse practitioners, nurse midwives, clinical nurse specialists, or administrators. A master's option to prepare clinical nurse leaders was added recently. Individuals with a baccalaureate or higher degree in another field can take advantage of the graduate entry program, which affords a streamlined approach to advanced nursing practice. The PhD program, which offers both post-master's and streamlined post-baccalaureate entry options, prepares nurse scientists and scholars who are skilled researchers and will advance the knowledge of the discipline.

The faculty of the College of Nursing are known for their outstanding teaching and internationally recognized programs of basic and applied research and their leadership in nursing practice. You will find a wide range of research projects and publications that address many important aspects of health care and nursing science, including risk reduction in vulnerable populations and the care of patients with acute and chronic illnesses.

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the College of Nursing is to generate, disseminate, and apply knowledge as it relates to nursing care of individuals, families, and communities in health and illness. The mission is fulfilled through teaching, research and scholarship, clinical practice, and service. Advancement and dissemination of knowledge promotes the ultimate objective of improving the quality of life through the promotion of health, the prevention of disease, and the care of the ill and vulnerable. The college seeks excellence through continuing achievement and improvement in the quality of its teaching, research and scholarship, clinical practice, and service.

This mission is directed toward the students of The Ohio State University, the citizens and communities of Ohio, and to national or international audiences. The college's primary audience is undergraduate and graduate students. Other audiences include consumers of health care, health care providers, health care systems, and business and community leaders interested in health, health care, and health care policy.

The needs of students and of other audiences including the profession of nursing shape college activity. The undergraduate curriculum is designed and implemented to enhance the abilities of students to function as professional nurses and to provide a basis for continued academic advancement. The graduate curricula are designed and implemented to prepare professional nurses for advanced practice roles and research and academic careers. The research and scholarship activities focus on the generation and dissemination of knowledge that will improve health and health care, The service activities focus on the demonstration of expert clinical care, the advancement of the profession, the strengthening of the university and larger communities.
