Nursing, science and chemistry courses taken over seven years from time of application may not transfer. The final evaluation of these courses will reside with the Director of Nursing.

What You'll Do Here
South Puget Sound Community College offers four educational pathways in nursing. You can take the eight-week Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) program, the two quarter advanced nursing assistant program, or the one-year Licensed practical Nurse (LPN) program or the two-year Registered Nurse (RN) program.

As an LPN and RN candidate, you’ll build a solid knowledge of anatomy, physiology and basic chemistry. You’ll also learn about psychiatric and mental health nursing and study trends and issues that dramatically affect the health care field. You’ll perform your clinical work in a local hospital, health clinic, or health care agency. While in the RN program, you’ll work in a preceptorship with an experienced nurse.

Associate Degree in Nursing Education

Prepares the graduates to become registered nurses who are qualified to assess, care for, and counsel the ill, injured, and infirm. They are prepared to direct and delegate to assistive personnel. They are able to administer medications and treatments to patients and other activities as described in law (RCW 18.79.040).

Certificate in Practical Nursing

prepares the graduates from the first year of the Nursing Program to give nursing care under the supervision of a registered nurse or a licensed physician (RCW18.79.040).

Certification as a Nursing Assistant

This course prepares students to become nursing assistants in nursing homes or convalescent centers, hospitals and home care settings. The course develops beginning skills in body mechanics, restorative and rehabilitation techniques, reality orientation, and the assistants role on the health care team. It meets the state's legal requirements to take the Certification Examination for Nursing Assistants.
