Reigner states: “The name Spencerian had imbedded itself in the consciousness of the American people. The name had been associated with business schools for almost a hundred years. It is an honored name."

Spencerian College still proudly stands for quality career education, expanding into Allied Health and Technology as a growing dynamic institution. The Practical Nursing prepares graduates to be practitioners and employees within the discipline of nursing in a variety of structured health care settings under the supervision of the registered nurse or physician.

After successful program completion, graduates are eligible to apply to state board of nursing for licensure by examination. Once licensed, the graduate may be employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Graduates of Spencerian's Practical Nursing program have had an outstanding employment success rate.

A student will gain on-the-job experience in the clinical phase of nursing. This is done in a variety of hospitals and health care facilities under the supervision of qualified nursing faculty. This program is offered in both the day and evening divisions.

The graduate of the Spencerian College Practical Nursing Program:

* Assumes the role of a competent, caring practical nurse in a variety of structured health care settings under the direction or supervision of a registered nurse, licensed physician, or dentist.
* Uses the caring phenomena, functional health patterns, and the nursing process to provide safe and effective nursing care to individuals and families in the human health experience.
* Demonstrates self-direction and responsibility for maintaining nursing competence by pursuing personal and professional development.
* Communicates effectively with clients and all members of healthcare team.
* Demonstrates accountability of practice with adherence to ethical and legal standards of the profession.

The A.A.S Degree in Nursing builds on the technical background of licensed practical nursing, offering LPN's the training to enable them to site for the licensing exam to become Registered Nurses. Throughout the courses, the nursing process is used to address goals and to assist individuals to meet their basic human needs.

The primary goal of the program is to prepare the beginning practitioner to meet the needs of the person and their community. Gordon’s “Functional Health Patterns” and Abraham Maslow’s “Hierarchy of Needs” have been incorporated as basis for theory in the nursing program. Core components include Professional Behaviors, Communication, Assessment, Clinical Decision Making, Caring Interventions, Teaching and Learning, Collaboration, and Managing Care.
