The University of Florida College of Nursing aspires to be a model of excellence, recognized nationally for innovative education, dynamic programs of research and creative approaches to nursing practice. The College is committed to preparing nurses as practitioners and scientists who reflect and care for a diverse society, and to fostering interdisciplinary approaches to address the complexity of health-care needs.

As part of the University of Florida , the College of Nursing has all the resources of the state's flagship university at their fingertips, including a top-notch interdisciplinary Health Science Center and centers and institutes like the Evelyn F. and William L. McKnight Brain Institute of UF , the UF Genetics Institute, the UF Shands Cancer Center, and the UF Institute on Aging.

Pioneering nursing education programs offered at UF address gaps in the health care system, as do the College's innovations in technological resources and initiatives linking students to diverse and international populations. The College of Nursing has a history of pioneering leadership in nursing education, having offered Florida 's first nurse practitioner programs, and first PhD in Nursing Science program.

Associated health care delivery networks provide access to an integrated system of community hospitals and clinics, statewide home health care, a veterans' health system and Shands Hospital at UF.

UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAMS

The College of Nursing offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in nursing. The undergraduate degree is the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and the graduate degrees are the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in nursing science.

The placement of the College of Nursing in the Health Science Center offers a unique opportunity to learn and work with students from other health professions. The colleges of the Health Science Center and their associated health care delivery networks provide students access to an integrated system of community hospitals and clinics, statewide home health care, a veterans' health system and quaternary care at Shands Hospital at UF. The College of Nursing maintains and participates in nursing and interdisciplinary clinics for women, children, adults and the elderly with special emphasis on under-served and rural populations.

The baccalaureate nursing degree prepares graduates to enter professional positions in primary, secondary and tertiary care settings with clients of all ages from diverse populations, or for advancement to a graduate degree program in nursing.

The college's programs are accredited by the Florida State Board of Nursing, the National League for Nursing and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. The college is a member of the Council on Collegiate Education for Nursing of the Southern Regional Education Board and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.
